During the Minneapolis riots, John Rieple, the owner of Cadillac Pawn & Jewelry, shot and killed a suspected looter. The incident happened after protestors destroyed the business. It occurred on the third night of disturbance following the murder of George Floyd. George Floyd got killed by a Minneapolis police officer that started the #BlackLivesMatter and the Minneapolis Riots.
Calvin Hooter, the suspected looter, was discovered lying on a city roadway. It happened near the Cadillac Pawn & Jewelry establishment located at Bloomington and East Lake Streets intersection. Witnesses claimed to have heard gunfire. Then noticed three men fleeing the scene. One of these males got detained by police for questioning in connection with the victim’s death. Since the cops started on duty, police have condemned reported looting around Minneapolis.
Calvin Hotter was considered a thief who was on their property. According to the law, a person has the right to protect themselves against intruders. In these situations, a person protecting oneself against an intruder would be justified in murdering the invader under self-defense legislation.
